In A Idade do Serrote, converting a city into myth implies the immersion in paradoxes of memory writings, questioning its documentary and testimonial characters, weaving the lines of fiction of the author with mythological figures that imagination extracts from the reality, out of the text. In the convergence between proustien “involuntary memory” and baudelairean flânerie, Murilo Mendes constructs a city is the city of all cities, the new born urbe of literature.
